Robert Priest has over thirty years experience as a teacher of writing for people of all ages. His versatility and experience with a wide range of writing forms: poetry, song, drama, fiction, children’s writing, film scripts, creative non-fiction and journalism, make him a valuable resource to almost any writer.
For twenty years he has served as a writer-in-electronic-residence for the online WIER program run by the Writer’s Development Trust. Over the years he has fostered the development of writers in all genres and at all ages and stages of development from across Canada and the United States.
In l989 he served as Playwright-in-Residence at Toronto’s Mixed Company Theatre. In l990 and 1991 he served as writer-in-residence at the Parry Sound Public Library. For two years he taught a song lyric writing course at U. Of T. School on Continuing Education. In addition he has led writing courses and workshops at Ryerson Polytech, Canadore College, The Bohemian Embassy, The Kingston School of Writing, Fort San, The Ganaraska Writer’s Colony, The Toronto School of Writing, The Haliburton School of Fine Arts, and in primary and secondary schools and universities throughout Canada, Britain, the U.S., Hungary, Israel and Jordan.
Robert has also taken part in mentoring programs through the Writer’s Union and through the League of Canadian Poets.
